THE ASSIGNMENT

This is a story I've been trying to write for quite a while. Several false starts suffered the trash can before I finally found a worthy protagonist. You'd think a decent idea for a story would be enough, but everything grinds to a halt a few chapters in unless a compelling main character appears from the heavens.

Without giving away too much, a young reporter is sent by her managing editor to write a fluff article about a local artist who will be featured at a street festival in a small North Carolina mountain town. Her simple assignment is complicated by an unwilling car, a freak blizzard, relatives and the Department of Homeland Security, among other things. You know. The usual.

The characters have been tremendous fun to flesh out. So long as they keep telling me what happens next, I'm going to continue plugging along after them.
